Appalachian Trail – 14 States Together

Roughly its length is 2180 miles (3508 kilometers) and it is one of the large continuously marked footpath of the world. The trail goes through 14 states of USA which starts form Georgia and end in Maine. 

The A.T. was started around 1920 and completed in 1937. Also A.T.  is a unit of the National Park System. It passes through six national park and eight national forests.  The A.T. is managed under a unique partnership between the public and private sectors that includes, among others, the National Park Service (NPS), the USDA Forest Service (USFS), an array of state agencies, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and 31 local Trail-maintaining clubs.Huge portion around 550 miles (885 kilometers) of this trail goes through Virginia State and another big portion goes through Pennsylvania. Specifically the range is Springer Mountain, Georgia, to the Trail’s northern terminus at Katahdin, Maine.

If two words come in mind USA and Hiking then the third one is A.T.  This is the best choice of hiking in USA. A.T is best for its variety of nature and huge option of beauty. Also you will get various types of animal like black bears, moose, porcupines, snakes, woodpeckers, and salamanders. Some plants you may encounter include jack-in-the-pulpit, skunk cabbage, and flame azalea.

Hiker should know:

  1. Length of the trails is 2180 miles (3508 kilometers).
  2. You will get more then 250 three-sided shelters in this trail.
  3. Huge amount of volunteers contribute for A.T over the year.
  4. Hiker should start form March or April at Springer Mountain in Georgia and finish at Katahdin in September.
  5. About 2 to 3 million visitors walk a portion of the A.T. each year.
  6. Average successful hiker rate in AT is 25%.
  7. Maryland and West Virginia are the easiest states to hike; New Hampshire and Maine are the hardest.
  8. Fall is the most beautiful time to enjoy the A.T. (Late September to early November).
